We are a small family-owned bakery.  Our pride is founded in years of family traditions of using only the finest and freshest ingredients. All cakes are baked on our premises and our icings are made from scratch. 

Each week there is a different assortment of cookies, bars and brownies.  We bake cherry and apple pies as well as cream pies.  Our breads are unique and baked throughout the week.  So far, the favorites have been Chicago Rye,  classic white and honey wheat.  

Stop in, ask for a sample of Sharon’s “Positively the best brownie you have ever tasted,” and see why we call it that. 

Other family favorites include our “To Die For Carrot Cake” and our Cherry Cake. Both very unique and like nothing else you will find anywhere. Then there is our BTS Chocolate Cake.  If you can't figure it out, ask what BTS means.   

Shawnee Hills Bakery Team Has Long History with Their Craft  

 

The baking and decorating team of Carol Kender and Sharon Mueller has been creating unique and tasty treats for as long as they can remember.   Sharon, who is Carol’s daughter, blames a birthday cake that her mother made for her when she was nine years old as starting her passion.   That was a phonograph player, complete with speakers and records.  “There were other cakes along the way but that is the one that keeps popping up when I remember mom’s cakes,” she said.   On their way to owning Shawnee Hills Bakery Carol spent time as a news reporter and as a dive store owner.   She sold the dive store; ASK Scuba and Snorkeling Center, five years ago.   She did some traveling and wrote two mystery novels.  

 

Sharon graduated from graphic design school and worked in the printing business before discovering how she could use her design skills by “playing with food” - icing and fondant.  She has been involved with bakeries as a cake decorator for more than 20 years now. Boredom with retirement and a desire to get back involved with a people business led Carol to open Shawnee Hills Bakery two and half years ago.  The bakery has grown to a full service seven-day a week operation.  Although custom cakes are their focus they have become famous for scones and turnovers.  In addition to awesome cakes, pies they turn out delicate croissants, killer lemon bars and The Best Brownie You Will Ever Eat.  Sharon still keeps her day job, but does 90 percent of the decorating at the bakery. 

 Two years ago Carol purchased the Dublin Cake Cottage, a small home-based business located just north of Shawnee Hills.  The owner, Ann Zanon, was relocating to Virginia and approached Carol about the sale. “I bought the business for the wedding cake expertise,” she said, “but if I had tasted Ann’s butter cream icing first, I would have bought it just for that recipe.   It is that recipe, combined with the formulas for Shawnee Hills Bakery’s signature cakes that have made the mother-daughter team unbeatable in the custom cake business.

 

Baking Schedule (subject to change)

We bake bread Thursday and Friday.  Also Saturday if necessary.

Our cakes are baked on Tuesday and Wednesday and decorated Tuesday and Wednesday evening.  

We make dessert bars, cookies and brownies as demand requires.

Pies are normally baked on Thursday.

We can do birthday, anniversary or wedding cakes.
